Cholesterol and Nutrition Health |

Cholesterol has become the subject of many nutrition health related discussions between my husband and I since he got a bad report from the doctor. He had gone in for his annual physical with the family doctor. The blood test showed that his cholesterol count was high, specifically his triglycerides. The doctor wanted my husband to start on some medication immediately.
We quickly learned that this medication was very expensive even with insurance and co-pays. My husband decided to go on the medication but to also change his nutrition health in order to bring the number down. For him this meant cutting out fast food lunches that consisted of cheeseburgers, french fries and soda. He would need to eliminate all nuts except walnuts. No margarine or butter, cake, pie, candy, gravy, tea, white bread or sweet pickles.
I read up on nutrition health and cholesterol. This is what my husband started eating more of: apples, bananas, carrots, cold water fish, beans, garlic and grapefruit. We cooked with olive oil and ate more barley, brown rice, oat bran and whole grain cereals. This nutrition health education was good for my husband. His cholesterol count did go down. He is off the prescribed medication now and maintaining those good numbers with his diet. |
